Da Belpasso a Bronte, Randazzo e Linguaglossa, con ritorno da Zafferana e Nicolosi

Etna reveals a different character on each slope: the dark stone of its villages, Bronte’s pistachio groves, vineyards on the northern flank and roads winding through woodland towards Milo. This road cycling tour brings together volcanic landscapes and village life on an approximately 118 km loop, starting and finishing in Belpasso.

Ride clockwise through Santa Maria di Licodia, Biancavilla and Adrano, continuing towards Bronte and Randazzo. On the northern side, farmland accompanies the route through the Passopisciaro and Solicchiata area before Linguaglossa. The return continues towards Milo and Zafferana Etnea, then through the Trecastagni, Pedara and Nicolosi area to complete the loop.

The pleasure of the journey lies in its changing perspectives: seeing the volcano from a distance, entering its villages and discovering how lava has shaped architecture and crops. A pistachio break in Bronte, a walk through Randazzo’s historic centre or a stop for local specialities in Zafferana can enrich the day; decide in advance how much time to devote to exploring.

With approximately 1,750 m of ascent, the ride requires good fitness and confidence on roads. Climbs and descents accompany you across Etna’s different slopes, opening up fresh views along the way. Ride it on a road bike or choose an e-gravel bike for assistance on the climbs: both are available to rent through Biking Sicily.

Why choose this route?

  • A loop around Mount Etna linking villages on its different slopes in a single ride.
  • Discover the volcano’s agricultural landscape, from pistachio groves and vineyards to crops growing in volcanic soil.
  • Explore historic centres and dark lava-stone architecture, with Randazzo among the most distinctive stops.
  • Start and finish in Belpasso while experiencing a changing landscape throughout the loop.

Experience at a glance: a ride around Etna’s foothills, through villages and along roads open to traffic. Visits to historic centres and tastings are optional stops to arrange separately.

Perfetto per chi cerca un'avventura outdoor autentica all'insegna di natura, ciclismo ed esplorazione del territorio.

Descrizione della tappa

Leave Belpasso for Santa Maria di Licodia, Biancavilla and Adrano, passing the villages on Etna’s south-western slopes. Lava stone appears in the buildings and landscape before the journey reaches Bronte. Here pistachios are part of both the landscape and the local cuisine: a stop can be part of the experience, with time and food considered alongside the kilometres still ahead. From Bronte, continue towards Randazzo, alternating climbs with smoother stretches. The lava-stone historic centre invites a break before the ride moves onto the northern slopes. The route crosses the Passopisciaro and Solicchiata area, through landscapes shaped by Etna’s winegrowing traditions, and reaches Linguaglossa. Any winery visits require separate booking and planning around the ride. Towards Milo the landscape becomes more wooded, with further changes in elevation. Continue to Zafferana Etnea and then towards the Trecastagni and Pedara area. Nicolosi comes near the end of the loop; from here, return to Belpasso after experiencing the different landscapes surrounding the volcano. Save some energy for the final climbs.
