Itinerary
A captivating tour through volcanic landscapes and riverine nature in the heart of eastern Sicily, at the foot of Mount Etna. This itinerary combines mountain panoramas, authentic villages, and stunning natural scenery.
The route winds through the Etna Valley, with a scenic climb among vineyards and lava flows that tell the story of the volcano’s power and fertility. Riding along secondary roads with open views of the Ionian coast, you pass through the historic centers of Piedimonte Etneo and Linguaglossa, villages rich in traditions and lava stone architecture.
A particularly scenic section follows the path of an old abandoned railway, now a dirt trail immersed in nature, where the silence is broken only by the sounds of the countryside. The tour continues to Castiglione di Sicilia, where you can see the Cuba Bizantina, a rare example of medieval architecture set in the rural landscape.
Reaching the Alcantara River Valley, you explore the lesser-known Alcantara Gorges, a quieter alternative to the main gorges, where water has sculpted spectacular basalt rock walls over time. Passing through the village of Francavilla di Sicilia completes the experience, with historic streets and open views over the valley.
A varied and scenic itinerary, ideal for those who want to cycle between volcano, river landscapes, and authentic small villages, discovering a different and less touristy side of Etna.
